'Got you stuck off the realness, we be the infamous/ you heard of us, official Queensbridge murderers/' - Shook Ones Part II

The first time I ever did a rap in front of a crowd was in grade 8, Nxakato JSS, Sowa Town (2005 Form 1A) and the verse I did was from 'Get Away' by Prodigy (Mobb Deep). I remember my former class mates laughing at the way I said the word 'scrambling'  because I imitated P he pronounced it 'scramb-eling.' Capital P was one of my childhood heroes and inspiration!

Being one of the most sampled voices in Hip Hop 'You hooked on Mobb phonics, Infamous bonics - Taken from Quiet Storm' he is definitely legend status. It is without a doubt that in '95 he delivered one of the finest verses of all time on "Shook Ones Part II" which would become a renowned classic of the golden era.

Born in 1974, November 2nd, Albert Johnson would later in his teenage years form the legendary iconic duo 'The Infamous Mobb Deep' with a high school friend, Havoc. Their first release "The Infamous" went gold in less than two months. Their biggest single "Shook Ones Part II" propelled a new wave of gangster rap and lyrics that appealed to most people living in crime infested, slums, projects, and underprivileged neighborhoods. This style of rap would later on become the cause of the feud between them and 2 Pac Shakur.

In 2000 we seen him release his first solo project, HNIC. One thing most people do not know is that Prodigy was actually a producer. He produced about 7 songs (including interludes) on this album. It is this very same project where he truly opens up about his 'Sickle Cell' condition on track 21 - You can never feel my pain. He takes us on an emotional trail since his birth, how he struggled against this condition through his teenage years and how much it consumed him to a point he thought drugs was the solution.

Being a well respected lyricist not only did he shine as a gangster rapper but as a very conscious intellect. 'Illuminati want my mind, soul and my body' is of his earliest lines (1996) that showed us he was enlightened. His latest music became clearer with more 'conspiracies' exposed through his lyrics that he was aware of higher forces at work on the political, economical, cultural and spiritual plane. We have lost a legend but his contribution and influence to the Hip Hop culture will forever be celebrated.

Through Hip Hop he will live forever. Rhyme In Paradise. Rest In Power Capital P!
